WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Meteorologist Adrian Campa says a Weather Alert Day for heavy rain and flooding has been declared Tuesday through Thursday for central and southern Kansas as a slow-moving system brings widespread rain to the state.
Before then, expect a rinse-and-repeat forecast through Monday afternoon, with mainly sunny skies, gusty south winds, and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. If Wichita reaches 90° on Sunday or Monday, it will set a new calendar-year record for the most days at or above 90°. Wichita is currently tied with 1954 at 101 such days in 2026.
Major weather changes begin early next week. A slight cooldown Tuesday and Wednesday will come with widespread showers and storms. Storms are expected to develop in southwestern Kansas Tuesday evening, then spread east and north overnight. Wednesday will bring periods of showers and embedded storms, with locally heavy rainfall. Showers and storms continue Thursday ahead of a cold front, then gradually end from west to east Thursday night.
