WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man has been sentenced in a federal counterfeiting case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 38-year-old Joseph Bulis has been sentenced to 57 months (4 years and 9 months) in federal prison. He pled guilty in October to one count of manufacturing counterfeit currency and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Court documents show when Wichita police searched Bulis’ hotel room in July 2023, they found a printer, paraphernalia used in counterfeiting, and around $3,000 in counterfeit $20 and $100 bills.

Bulis had fled, but when he was later arrested, a search of his backpack revealed Bulis had drawing paper, uncut counterfeit bills, and cutting tools inside.
In an unrelated encounter with police, Bulis was pulled over for a traffic violation. Inside his vehicle, police found a gun which he was prohibited from possessing because of previous felony convictions.
The U.S. Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms investigated the case.
