Lakewood Middle School staff member arrested by Newton, Salina Police Departments

Students at Lakewood Middle School witnessed the Newton and Salina Police Departments place a staff member under arrest Monday morning.

Additionally, a fire alarm was activated and the building was evacuated, though no fire threat was determined and students returned to classes as normal for the rest of the day.

That’s the information that Salina Schools USD 305 sent to parents and guardians of Lakewood students Monday.

According to Jennifer Camien, communications director for USD 305 in an email to the Journal, the message to parents and guardians contained the following statement:

“We want to inform you that a staff member was taken into custody at Lakewood by the Salina Police Department this morning. Some Lakewood students witnessed this incident because at that time a fire alarm was triggered and the building was evacuated.”

It was determined that there was no fire threat and administration was given the all clear. Students and staff returned to their classrooms. The school day is proceeding as normal.
