Fires break out at homeless encampment overnight in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A fire at a homeless encampment in south Wichita grew out of control overnight and caused issues for firefighters. Two separate fires broke out in the woods near Hydraulic and I-135 just after 1:30 a.m. Friday. When crews arrived on scene they found two separate fires at a homeless camp a quarter-mile into the woods. Extra crews were called out to help, because the fire was so hard to get to and was growing.
