WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Fire Department responded to a house fire in south Wichita Tuesday morning.
According to WFD Captain Jeremy Menges, firefighters responded to the report of a house fire in the 1200 block of S. Topeka St.
“It’s right behind Firehouse Two. Guys from there got here pretty quick and found a pretty good fire going on on the first floor and got it handled,” said Menges.
Menges said the fire was mostly inside and that it worked its way up to the second floor from the front room.
The house is considered an unoccupied home.

“There’s been unoccupied for quite a while, but the door’s been unlocked and opened, so it’s just that time of year that it’s cold out, and homeless folks need somewhere to go,” said Menges.
Menges says the home had hoarding conditions inside.
“It can be dangerous and deadly for sure because some of them are so bad that there’s only paths that you can walk through or crawl through or whatever. Just that it’s a lot of fire load that can get hot enough to flash on you and put you in a bad spot real quick,” said Menges.
