Woman found shot to death in Wellington Tuesday

WELLINGTON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wellington Police Department and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide.

Police say both responded to the 1100 block of S. Washington Ave. shortly before 7:30 Tuesday morning to the report of a shooting. They found A 27-year-old woman who had been shot.

Wellington EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath tells KSN News that the shooting was not self-inflicted, and the woman is believed to be the victim of a homicide. The department is still investigating, and Heath could not provide further details.

Police say there is no danger to the public. Anyone who may have information about the case is asked to contact Wellington Police at 620-326-3331.
