Sedgwick County Emergency Management is also making sure medics are ready for the high temperatures. EMS is loading up on water and checking that the vehicle’s air conditioning is running.

One of the medics said part of the preparation is keeping an eye on the forecast.

“We worry about the heat index a lot because you have that high heat with the moisture in the air and so it makes everything a lot more unbearable,” Kathy Baumert, District Chief Medic for District 3, said.
