Run Wichita hosts free shoe drive for middle and high school student-athletes

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – With the high school cross-country season just around the corner, the demand for running shoes among student-athletes is rising.

On Sunday, Run Wichita collaborated with Fartleks Running Shop to organize a free shoe drive for middle and high school student-athletes.

It all started after Run Wichita’s President Karlee Rose saw students wearing the wrong size of shoes and heard about students wearing the wrong type of shoes.

“I used to work at a running store, and I would see kids come in and they were in the wrong size shoe, and so I would put kids in the right size show, and it would totally change their running because they were able to not get injured and able to have better performance,” said Rose. “Then I used to see coaches coming in and telling me about how they had runners running in Converse and Crocs and just shoes that they should not be running in for cross country and track.”
