Sedgwick County Commission chairman optimistic about Boeing’s future in Wichita

Sedgwick County Commission Chair Ryan Baty was part of a local group welcoming Boeing’s top executives to Wichita Monday. Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg and Chairman Steven Mollenkopf toured Spirit AeroSystems, which Boeing is reacquiring for eight billion dollars. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran invited the Boeing Brass to the Air Capitol. Commission Chair Baty tells KNSS News he is optimistic about the future of Boeing in Wichita, “I’m more hopeful than I have been in months.” Baty says, “They feel really good about where they’re at in Wichita and want to grow what we have here.”

At Wednesday’s meeting, the Sedgwick County Commission will look at proposed zoning codes for commercial and industrial-scale solar farms. Ryan Baty says these farms could cover thousands of acres.

The Commission will consider a proposed real estate agreement for EMS Post Number One. The commission will be entertaining an offer on land near 13th and Sheridan for $155,000 to build a new facility at a cost of $1.9 million. Baty says this will enhance response time and service capacity.
