Man meets local responders who saved his life

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) —  A man has a second chance at life after being revived from cardiac arrest.

It was an emotional moment filled with gratitude to the men and women who saved Neil Sike’s life.

The quick action from Neil’s wife, Debbie, is credited with helping to save his life. She found him without a pulse and not breathing.

“I don’t really remember what happened, but she found me slumped over the seat and couldn’t get me to respond, so she called 911,” said Neil.

EMS worked to resuscitate Neil for 50 minutes, which they say is an extremely long time.

“I just can’t thank you guys enough, and thank you for not giving up. You just kept going and going and going,” Debbie said.

The reunion is a rare one for first responders.

“In 17 years, I’ve only got to meet one survivor so I thought it was important not only for you but for us to see the end result of the job we do,” said Lieutenant of the Wichita Fire Department Daniel Bugner.

Staring death in the eyes gave Neil a new outlook on life.
