Frontiers in Flight practice pre-show draws early crowd

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The sonic booms rang out alongside dancing planes at McConnell Air Force Base on Friday.

The Frontiers in Flight Air Show starts Saturday, but some people headed out early for a preview, the main event: The Blue Angles Flying.

Friends and family of McConnell Air Force Base staff were allowed to attend Friday’s practice run. In the Air Capital, it’s an event that connects generations.

Davie Hobbs attended the practice show after years of service in the Air Force, retiring at McConnell Air Force Base.

“I’m starstruck … I never got to see the Blue Angels in my career, so this was amazing to see,” Hobbs said.

Children of pilots like Devin Jaggers and fathers like Curt Van Boening watched the aircraft and pilots.

“I really like airplanes just like my dad … He was a KC135 pilot,” Jaggers said.

“Our son’s serving in the Air Force,” Van Boening said. “It’s a show of support for the military as well as entertainment for us. We like to come out and see the excellent pilots.”
