Wichita man sentenced in 2023 homicide of 16-year-old Elrecus Nolan Jr.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man convicted in July in the 2023 homicide of 16-year-old Elrecus Nolan Jr. has been sentenced to prison.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office says Rico Brown, 25, of Wichita, was sentenced Wednesday by District Judge Jeffrey Syrios to life with the possibility of parole after 51.5 years in prison. His co-defendant, Dougqualyn Patterson, is scheduled for a status conference in October.

It happened on the night of July 3, 2023, near Mt. Vernon and Southeast Boulevard. Nolan Jr. was found inside a car that had stopped on a sidewalk after police responded to the report of gunfire.

He was pronounced dead a short time later. Brown and Patterson were arrested four days later .
