Wichita bridge is one of many infamous for ‘eating trucks’

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — It’s a bridge well known to many in Wichita.

The Waterman train bridge near Intrust Bank Arena is infamous for the number of times a truck driver misses the 12-foot height warning, either striking the bridge or getting stuck underneath. The most recent incident was on Friday , but it’s been happening for years so frequently that the city has installed flashing lights to warn drivers of the height restriction.

It’s not the only bridge in Kansas that has been frequently struck. On Sept. 4, KDOT will shut down a section of I-70 to remove a bridge that has been hit so often due to oversized loads that it had to be closed to traffic in March.

According to KSN’s sister station WDAF , the Independence Avenue Bridge in Kansas City has been destroying trucks and trailers for years. The bridge even has its own Facebook page .

Enid, Oklahoma, has the famous East Main Bridge adorned with shark teeth. It, too, has its own dedicated Facebook page .
