WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A WSU Tech esports team is bringing home some hardware.
Players in “Rainbow Six Siege,” a SWAT simulation game, won the spring national championship, and they accepted the trophy Tuesday.
“Well, it feels kind of surreal, honestly. It still sounds weird to say that we’re national champions. Looking back on it, it almost feels like it went by really fast, and so it’s a super great accomplishment,” said Coach Mario Castellanos. “It’s not something that a lot of people can say, especially collegiate students and collegiate athletes,” said Coach Mario Castellanos.
Castellanos’ says competition may sound like fun and games, but it’s hard work.
“It’s a lot of work-life and fun balance, and it takes a lot of dedication to both be a good student, earn that scholarship, and be a good player,” he said.
