Suspect arrested after highway robbery, police chase in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A police chase ended on Interstate 235 at Meridian Avenue on Thursday.

The Wichita Police Department said around 2:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery call in the area of Central Avenue and I-235. A woman told dispatchers someone pushed her out of her car and stole it.

WPD gives update on deputy-involved shooting, standoff in Haysville

An officer in the area located the car and said the victim was still in the car at that point. A pursuit ensued after the suspect did not stop.

The WPD said they believe the victim and suspect knew each other.

The pursuit continued on I-235 to the exit for Meridian Avenue when the suspect stopped the car and took off on foot. He was apprehended shortly later.

Dispatch initially told KSN the nature of the call was highway robbery. WPD said a highway robbery is a robbery that occurs that is not in a business, building, or dwelling.
