WSU breaks ground on Wilkins Stadium renovations

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita State University broke ground on the renovations that will be made to Wilkins Stadium for WSU softball on Saturday.

The ceremony included WSU officials like president Rick Muma, athletic director Kevin Saal, softball head coach Kristi Bredbenner and more.

The renovations were announced in Jan. 2023. Those include an over 12,000-square-foot team complex and a 14,400-square-foot indoor practice facility.

For guests, there will be a new enclosed concourse with a grand front entrance, berm outfield seating, a new scoreboard with video board, a variety of expanded seating areas, suites, and press box, a ticket office, concession stands, additional restrooms, a merchandise store, fan netting, and outfield suites.

The stadium renovation will also include a field technology area, spaces for the media, radio and TV booths, control room for the videoboard and a multi-use suite that can be used for multiple types of groups including recruiting events, team events, private companies, community members and other large groups.
