Wichita’s director of park and recreation is out

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita’s director of park and recreation, Troy Houtman, is out. Reggie Davidson has now been named the interim director of the department. Houtman held the job since 2014.

KSN News contacted several city council members to ask why, but they would not tell us. We were directed to a city spokesperson who gave us Davidson’s name but would not provide any other information.

This announcement comes less than two weeks after the controversy over Clapp Park . City council members had a back-and-forth over renewing a contract with a disc golf company leasing the clubhouse at the old Clapp golf course.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu said that while she understands the rush from 2021 to get a group in the space, the City needs to put out a Request For Proposals to allow others interested the chance to use the space. Also, the amount of rent the business paid to the City was scrutinized. Mayor Wu is concerned that the original deal was for $300, with yearly increases. Ducks says it is still paying $300.
