Man killed in crash on K-96 northwest of Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 34-year-old Wichita man was killed in a crash early Monday on Kansas Highway 96 northwest of Wichita. The collision involved a GMC van and grain truck around 6 a.m. in the median at 151st Street West and K-96.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the truck carrying grain was stopped at a sign. The GMC van was traveling west on K-96, and for an unknown reason, the van entered the median and struck the semi truck’s trailer.

The driver of the van, identified as Joseph B. Clementi, was killed in the collision. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to the KHP report. The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old Emporia woman, wasn’t injured.

Traffic on K-96 was reduced to one lane in each direction as crews worked the crash.
