Wichita brothers plead guilty, must pay $3.4 million for fraud scheme

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Two brothers from Wichita pleaded guilty in federal court to taking part in a scheme to defraud a federal healthcare program.

The Department of Justice said Todd Eck, 60, and Bradley Eck, 56, both pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. They were indicted in August 2022.

A news release said the scheme occurred from January 2017 to April 2019. The Ecks allegedly utilized four healthcare-related companies they created to enroll in Medicare reimbursements for billed medical procedures.

The DOJ said the brothers concealed their ownership and control of the businesses on the Medicare enrollment form and omitted background information about themselves. Those omissions were material to determining whether Todd and Bradley were eligible to enroll, so all billing reimbursements made by Medicare to them were fraudulent.
