Wichita ranked 104 out of 182 large cities for safety

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A new report from WalletHub ranks Wichita 104th out of 182 large cities for safety.

For the Safest Cities in America 2024 report, WalletHub gathered data from federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and private industry groups. They then used 41 metrics broken down into three categories: Home & Community Safety, Natural Disaster Risk, and Financial Safety.

Wichita was ranked 104 out of the 182 cities on the list. Broken down into each category, Wichita was 44th in Financial Safety, 96th in Natural Disaster Risk, and 116th in Home and Community Safety.

The metrics for home and community safety included not only crime reports but also the number of firefighters, EMS, and police personnel per capita, homelessness, traffic-related accidents and deaths, and drug-related overdoses. Natural Disaster Risk includes severe weather, wildfire, flooding, and earthquake risk. Financial Safety looked at data on employment, unemployment, bankruptcy filings, insured vs. uninsured, debt-to-income, and other financial data.
