Wichita organization honoring young lives lost, encouraging families to grieve Tuesday

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW)—An event that allows families who have lost infants to grieve together will take place Tuesday evening in honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day .

During the annual Wave of Light event, families can walk along 50,000 pink, blue, and white lights in memory of their loved ones. There will also be a candlelight vigil, water lantern release, and a performance by Josh Sanders, a recent competitor on The Voice and a grieving parent. He will be there with his wife, sharing their personal experiences and reminding families that it’s important to acknowledge their loss.

“I think it’s very important just for us as we walk this journey of life together, but especially, you know, in our darkest hours when you know when the funerals are over, and the families go home and you’re kind of left there to start life over,” Sanders said.

Infant deaths increased in Kansas statewide, report says

Sanders and his wife lost their son, Leelynd, on March 27, 2020. He was born at 23.5 weeks on Sanders’ birthday and passed away the same day.
