TOPEKA — A federal grand jury in Ohio has indicted a doctor who practiced medicine in Kansas in connection with what investigators called a “sophisticated and brutal” 1989 rape.

Frederick Tanzer, 66, was arrested at his home in the greater Cincinnati area Dec. 11. He has had an active medical license in Kansas since 2015, and appears to have practiced at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, according to a Kansas Board of Healing Arts registry .

Two additional victims have come forward since the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Ohio announced Tanzer’s arrest, including one who accused him of repeated druggings and rapes in Kansas as recently as two and a half years ago, the office said.

A six-count indictment filed Wednesday charged Tanzer with four counts of making false statements to a federal officer and two counts of making or using a false document or writing. Each carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.
