WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Art Museum is offering free admission after Christmas to an exhibit for an artist who exploded onto the art scene just 12 years ago and whose work has become highly sought-after.
The exhibit Somewhere In America features key paintings from Peterson’s existing work and over 20 new paintings. A portrait painter, Peterson explores the black experience in America, depicting life everywhere, from his hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma, to his friends and family throughout the country.
When you’ll see extra paychecks in 2025
The self-taught painter first picked up a brush in 2012 as a distraction for hip replacement surgery, and one year later, he had his first solo exhibition in New York City, which is almost unheard of. His work is featured at the Philbrook Museum of Art , Weisman Art Museum , and Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg .
Admission to Somewhere In America is free Thursday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Wichita Art Museum is located at 1400 Museum Blvd.
