Wichita firefighters battle several Christmas fires

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Christmas Eve and Christmas morning were busy for Wichita firefighters. The department responded to 11 reported calls, of which several were working fires.

The first fire happened at 9 p.m. at a southeast Wichita duplex at Hunter and Cottonwood. Video provided by the department shows flames coming from the corner of the duplex. The department said a new rookie who just graduated Friday was 13 hours into his first shift and helped fight the blaze.

On Christmas morning, fire crews responded to a fire in an attached garage at 2313 S. Estelle Ave. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control. There were no reports of injuries.
