Wichita, KS – Bitter cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills are expected to grip Wichita starting Monday morning, posing risks for residents and commuters. The National Weather Service predicts wind chill values as low as -14 degrees, making frostbite a serious concern for exposed skin.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will hover near 16 degrees Monday with strong north-northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 36 mph will exacerbate the cold, making it feel even colder. Residents are urged to bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Tuesday offers some relief with highs reaching 21 degrees under mostly sunny skies, but overnight lows will dip to 4 degrees. Wednesday will bring slightly warmer conditions with a high near 22 degrees and clear skies expected overnight. By Thursday, a modest warming trend will begin, with highs in the low 30s stretching into Friday.
