NEWTON, Kan. (KWCH) – First responders in Newton are taking advantage of winter weather to practice ice rescue training.
The temperature on Thursday was right around the freezing point, 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The Newton Fire Department emphasized the importance of the training as first responders have to act quickly when people or animals fall through the ice.
