FactFinder: New federal spending package raises concerns over pediatric cancer research funding

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – When the U.S. Congress passed the new spending package last December to avoid a government shutdown, non-profit organizations involved with pediatric cancer research raised concern over cancer research funding being left out of it.

Non-profits like the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation say several measures were cut including the Accelerating Kids to Research Act which would make it easier for low-income families with children on Medicaid to seek out-of-state cancer treatment.

Other bills including the Creating Hope Reauthorization Act, aimed at incentivizing drug development for pediatric cancer, were also cut from the spending package…
