WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office is warning about a scam that targets real estate transactions.
DA Marc Bennett says realtors, banks, and title companies need to pay close attention to all electronic transactions. The Consumer Protection Division has just begun an investigation of a six-figure electronic transfer of funds in a property closing that was meant to be sent to a legitimate bank account.

Although the email address associated with the communications between parties appeared to be legitimate, it has a single number/letter different from the intended recipient. It wasn’t noticed until after the money had been sent to a different account.
