The Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center in Wichita has introduced a new feature that is aimed at helping the experience for patrons with sensory sensitivities.
The facility will be providing “sensory packs” that will include a pop-it fidget toy, earplugs, a lollipop, and a sanitizing wipe. The items are intended to help patrons manage sensory sensitivities while enjoying events at Century II. The inclusion of a small treat, like the lollipop, provides a simple and effective way to engage the senses and create a calming effect.
Century II box office manager Andrea Blann discovered the idea at a conference, and there was a panel “where a man discussed the tribulations of attending events with his Autistic son who is prone to sensory overload. While he used to take a backpack full of coping mechanisms, when he created his own comic con, he established sensory packs for anyone who needed them.”…
