Herbert, Mullens big winners at “Thunder Through the Plains”

Fans packed the grandstands under a crisp Kansas sky Friday night for “Thunder Through the Plains,” as Saltcity Racing brought roaring action to the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Murphy Tractor & Equipment Co., Inc. and B & B Hydraulics, Inc., the event delivered a full throttle evening of dirt track drama and hometown heroes claiming the checkered flag.

The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car division kicked off the action-packed night with a fierce battle in the A Feature. Wichita’s Brian Herbert (#97) outpaced the field to claim a commanding victory, thrilling local fans with his textbook turns and late-race speed. Jeremy Huish (#88J) of Jetmore gave chase to finish a strong second, while fellow Wichitan Jeremy Campbell (#51) rounded out the podium in third, making it a stellar showing for Kansas talent.

Not to be outdone, the Dirt Super Late Models stormed the track in a heart-pounding main event. Wichita driver Tanner Mullens (#02) put on a clinic, charging to the front and holding off challenges to seize first place honors. Enid Oklahoma’s Kip Hughes (#G0) pushed hard in second, while Jake Nightingale (#3J) from Hutchinson gave the hometown crowd plenty to cheer about with a hard-earned third-place finish…
