WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Many Kansans are getting a start on the Fourth of July holiday. For the first time in years, O’Brien’s Marina at Cheney Lake is expecting crowds because of near-normal lake levels.
“People are back, coming out at the lake. For the last two years, people were going to other lakes in the area or even out of state because they couldn’t do anything here. And it’s been, it’s nice to get back to the normal, means for business for us,” Kevin O’Brien, the marina owner, said.
During Memorial Day, a park ranger told KSN News that attendance was down. At one point, the lake was nearly 8 feet below normal levels due to drought. Heavy rain in late May and June recently helped the lake rise.
