Today, I salute Wichita Air Force Veteran Alvin Hill. Alvin’s military career started in 1961 when he left his small-town Georgia home and began driving trucks. His first assignment paved the way for various important roles throughout his military career. During the peak of the Vietnam War, he became a military training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where he faced the exhausting challenge of training nearly double the number of airmen compared to peacetime.

Hill eventually returned to Lackland to teach military history and world affairs before managing vehicle logistics at McConnell Air Force Base. Responsible for ensuring reliable transportation to missile sites, he was instrumental in keeping operations running smoothly. Hill retired as…..
