Sedgwick County approves outdoor fitness area for seniors

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County will build a new outdoor fitness area at Sedgwick County Park for adults 60 and older, including those with disabilities.

The project will include 11 resistance-based exercise stations, five of which are wheelchair accessible. The equipment will be installed on a concrete pad and covered with a shade structure. It will sit next to the Sunrise Boundless Playscape to encourage shared use by kids and older adults.

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services is providing a $180,000 grant to fund the project. Construction is expected to be finished by Sept. 30, 2025.

County staff will handle upkeep, with maintenance expected to cost $5,000 to $6,000 a year after the warranty ends.
