Heat & humidity lead to storm chances in Wichita metro on Friday

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -Last night’s storms are long gone, but the next round of rain and thunder arrives later today. Before that takes place, underneath partly cloudy skies temperatures will top out in the middle 90s as the heat index gets close to the century mark.

An unusually strong cold front will move across the state today. Showers and storms, possibly severe will erupt over central Kansas after 4 p.m. and move in the Wichita metro area after 6 p.m. The main concern is damaging wind gusts followed by areas of heavy rainfall, and the best chances will be east of the turnpike.

While a shower cannot be ruled out on Saturday, the big weather story this weekend will be cooler temperatures. Highs in the lower to middle 80s are five to ten degrees below normal for middle July…
