Pre-tariff inventory dries up, local businesses may have to replace with post-tariff prices

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Prices are on the rise again across the U.S. The latest consumer price index puts June’s inflation rate at 0.3%. It’s starting to hit some Wichita businesses, which stocked up on inventory ahead of the tariffs in April and May.

A Newman University expert, Dr. Larry Straub, suspects this is partially due to pre-tariff inventories drying up and needing to be replaced by post-tariff higher prices.

“We’re sitting here, quite a way down the road, and we’re still in the middle of this trade war,” Straub said. “This slight uptick that we saw this month, we’ve got to see if that’s part of a trend or if it’s a fluke. I suspect it’s going to be part of a trend.”…
