Storm Track 3 Forecast: Heat dials back increasing opportunities for rain

A front is tracking through parts of Kansas today. There is also a piece of energy coming out of the South Plains. These will help liven up the atmosphere for scattered showers and thunderstorms into the overnight.

Given the instability with a weakly capped atmosphere, or no lid to stop storm formation, a few storms will be severe for damaging winds and heavy, localized rainfall that could lead to flooding.

There will be a larger uptick in widespread showers and storms overnight. A Flood Watch is in effect to the northeast. Please do not drive nor walk through any flooded areas as these storms will be slow-moving and tropical in nature through Friday.

Lows will be in the 60s to the west and more 70s in the east.

Storms tonight will help to push the front along.  Where it stalls will be the focus for new thunderstorm development Thursday evening.

Some storms will be strong to severe for damaging winds and heavy rainfall. This will evolve into another complex of storms Thursday night into Friday morning.

Highs on Thursday will be divided.  Behind the boundary, it will be milder in the 80s. Ahead of the boundary, we will sweat to the lower 90s.

Similar temps are on the table for Friday with another round of showers and storms.  The intensity level of a few should be monitored.

This weekend, the heat dome wobbles and temps climb back to the middle and upper 90s. There is an isolated chance for storms near the Nebraska state line, but most look dry into early next week.  Another front dips south next Tuesday, ramping up storm chances the remainder of next week. Highs will also fall to more 80s over the 90s due to the frontal position and off/on rain.
