Inmate dies at Sedgwick County Jail

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — An investigation is underway at the Sedgwick County Jail following the death of an inmate.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says the inmate was found unresponsive in their cell shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Detention staff and on-site medical personnel began life-saving measures until EMS and firefighters arrived.

The inmate was transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly after midnight. Per regulations, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was notified.

The man’s cause of death is still under investigation, but the sheriff’s office says it appears to be self-asphyxiation. Though the sheriff’s office did not identify the inmate, they did note that he was being held on charges of aggravated robbery following his arrest on July 15…
