Andover city council votes to double its own pay amid push for new voices

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – In a 5-2 vote, Andover’s City Council has approved a pay raise that doubles the annual salary for its elected officials.

The mayor will now earn $16,560 a year, and each council member will receive $10,810, up from their previous salaries of roughly half that amount.

Supporters of the raise say it’s meant to attract a wider and more diverse range of candidates to public office, especially younger residents who may not be able to afford the time commitment otherwise…
