WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – With the start of classes just around the corner for Wichita Public Schools, teachers say they feel the strain of rising school supply costs.
From Amazon Wish lists to seeking help from parents, educators are getting creative with ways to help students prepare for the new year. School supply lists are growing, and according to one USD 259 teacher, so are the price tags. She says she shells out up to $600 a year on classroom supplies. It’s all paid for with her own money.
“There’s a rise in everything, and school supplies are right up there,” Jennifer Keys, an educator at Christa McAuliffe Academy, said. “My classes, he has composition books for their notebooks, and we set them up a particular way for a particular reason, and every year, I have probably a third of the students either don’t bring one or they bring the wrong one.”…
