WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – In the heart of Central Riverside Park, the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit continues to connect visitors with the animals that call Kansas home. Known as Wichita’s original zoo, the exhibit features more than 25 native species.
We recently got a behind-the-scenes look during the daily noon feeding, which happens every day, year-round, and is always free to the public. Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is more than just a exhibit, it’s a sanctuary. Many of the animals here are non-releasable due to injury or other circumstances, and the team at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit provides them with a safe, enriching place to live. The keepers know each animal personally and treat them with genuine care and attention.
The current exhibit opened in 1988, but a zoo has existed in some form at this very site since 1901, once even having an alligator pit and a lion and monkey house. Since KWE’s origin, they have been continuing a long-standing tradition of wildlife education in Wichita. Whether you’re visiting with kids, out for a walk in Riverside Park, or just curious about wildlife, the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is a meaningful stop for all ages and a piece of Wichita history!…
