Wichita lake will be aglow on Saturday with water lanterns, wishes

Every year for the past several years, Wichitans have had the chance to gather at OJ Watson park, scrawl their wishes onto glowing water lanterns, set them afloat and watch them light up the lake. That opportunity comes again this weekend with the Water Lantern Festival, which is happening on Saturday.

Otherwise, the entertainment calendar in Wichita this weekend is filled with music and music theatre. Here’s a look at some of the best ways to stay entertained this weekend:

Water Lantern Festival

5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, OJ Watson Park 3022 S. McLean Blvd.

The Water Lantern Festival returns to Wichita on Saturday and will offer attendees the chance to create light-up lanterns they can launch into the water at OJ Watson Park. The family-friendly event, set for 5:30-9:30 p.m., will also include food trucks, vendors and live music. Tickets include a floating lantern kit, conversation cards and entry into a scavenger hunt. Adult tickets are $37.99 if purchased online by Friday or $57.99 at the gate. Admission is free for ages 7 and under if they’re with an adult ticket holder, but lanterns will not be provided.
