Wichita Public Schools have returned for the 2025-26 school year, but many are still trying to fill vacancies.
In an Aug. 13 school district press conference, Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld said the district is starting with less than 70 teaching openings, which is fewer unfilled roles than in years past.
“That tracks with the trends we’ve been seeing both locally and across the state, with the continued need for special education teachers in particular,” he said. “But for us, these are pretty good numbers to start the year.”…
