WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Police Department has a new member on its force. It does not have two legs, and it’s not a dog.
Syd is the new mounted patrol unit, a 6-year-old mare donated to the department by the Deputy Sidnee Carter Memorial Fund.
Carter died in 2022 while on patrol. She was responding to a 911 call when her car got hit by someone who ran a stop sign. She loved horses and had one of her own, so her family thought it fitting to donate one to the police department in her honor…
