A few scattered showers and storms move from northwestern to central Kansas this morning, with isolated heavy downpours and a few strong gusts possible.
We start off the morning dry in southern Kansas with a mix of sun and clouds, but clouds will gradually take up more real estate in the skies through the day.
Temperatures remain warm, but still well below average with highs in the 70s and 80s, coolest in the north.
A bit of a lull in rain activity is expected through midday, but some spotty activity may persist through the day especially north of I-70. A more widespread wave of rain generates in the evening through the overnight, centered on the western half of Kansas.
Tonight’s rainfall will be heavy at times, and there is a risk of localized flash flooding especially across the western half of Kansas.
A few storms may also become severe, mainly with the threat of some strong gusts and a hailstone or two.
Rain lasts throughout the night, persisting into the first half of Monday.
Temperatures fall to the 50s and 60s overnight.
Monday starts with heavy clouds and rain, and this will set temperatures back significantly. Highs tomorrow are expected to only reach the 60s for most. Clouds may be able to break up later in the day, but most of Monday looks low and gray.
Rain tapers off from north to south, ending in the afternoon for areas along the Oklahoma state line.
The flash flooding risk will migrate south on Monday as the rain moves into Oklahoma.
Tuesday looks more quiet with only a few spotty showers possible. Rain chances pick back up on Wednesday and Thursday with another widespread, heavy wave of rain likely.
Between the two rounds of rain, much of Kansas comes away with rainfall totals in excess of 2 or 3 inches. Some localized areas could see over 4 inches.
