Motorcyclist dead in West Wichita crash

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A motorcyclist has died following a crash in southwest Wichita.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday on Interstate 235 near West Street. Troopers say Jess Chavez, 51, of Wichita, was heading north on the interstate when, for an unknown reason, he left the roadway.

Chavez’s Harley Davidson entered the median, struck the guardrail, throwing Chavez off the bike and into the guardrail and a fence. Chavez came to rest in the roadway, while his bike continued traveling, crossing the southbound lanes, crashing through a fence, and finally stopping on Bolin Drive, just west of the interstate.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash…
