Woman pleads guilty in child’s shooting death

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A woman arrested in connection with the March 16 shooting death of a 7-year-old boy in the Planeview has pleaded guilty.

Tasha Dillard had been scheduled to go on trial on Sept. 15 in the death of 7-year-old Davion Gunter. Instead, she appeared in court Thursday morning, where she agreed to plead guilty to an amended charge of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated endangering a child.

In court records, prosecutors allege Dillard was in a parked car with other adults, drinking tequila, while children—ranging in age from 1 to 9—were left unsupervised inside an apartment. At one point, a 4-year-old child found a gun and shot Gunter.

Dillard was arrested shortly after and had originally been facing a charge of first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated endangering a child. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 68 months…
