Boil water advisory issued for parts of Butler County

BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Residents served by Public Wholesale Water Supply District #8 and Butler County Rural Water District #3 are under a boil water advisory after a waterline break caused a loss of pressure in the systems.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) issued the advisory Sept. 4, warning that the pressure drop could result in bacterial contamination.

Until further notice, customers are urged to:

  • Boil water for one minute before drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water.
  • Discard ice cubes and do not use ice from household icemakers.
  • Flush taps if water appears dirty.
  • Disinfect dishes and food-contact surfaces by immersing them for one minute in tap water mixed with one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon.
  • Supervise children while bathing to avoid accidental ingestion.

Water for bathing does not typically need to be boiled, but people with cuts or rashes may wish to consult a doctor.

The advisory will remain in effect until testing at a certified laboratory confirms the water is safe. Only KDHE can issue the rescind order…
