WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita is stepping up its fight against illegal dumping. On Tuesday, City Council passed an ordinance 7-0 to raise fines and add new cameras in problem areas.
The penalty for illegal dumping will be no less than a $1,00 fine and no more than a $1,500 fine for a first offense. For a second offense, those totals raise to $1,500 and $2,500.
The issue has cost the city more than $1 million in cleanup over the past eight years. In the same time, Wichita recovered just $4,000, primarily because it’s hard to prove who’s responsible…
