New data shows decreasing suicide rate in Sedgwick County

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – On World Suicide Prevention Day, local leaders released new suicide data for Sedgwick County.

In 2024, there were 92 suicides in the county, continuing a trend of declining numbers over several years. However, local leaders emphasize that even one suicide is too many.

Dr. Nicole Klause, an Associate Professor at KU School of Medicine-Wichita, said it is the lowest suicide rate the county has seen in the last ten years. Despite this positive trend, Sedgwick County’s suicide rate remains above the statewide and national averages…
