Acid attack burned Wichita teen’s face. Woman pleads guilty for her role in it

A Wichita woman has pleaded guilty in connection with an acid attack that left a teenage girl with second-degree burns to her face last year.

Tayronnia West, 19, pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of reckless aggravated battery in the May 2024 attack, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said. West was among three teens who went to the 400 block of North Dodge, near Second Street and Seneca, so West could fight with the victim following a months-long social media feud.

As West and the victim began to brawl, a 16-year-old girl from Topeka tossed a cup of Liquid Fire drain line opener in the victim’s face, a probable cause affidavit says. The drain cleaner contained sulfuric acid and was so strong that it melted parts of the victim’s clothing and burned the hand of a police officer who picked up a wig torn from her head during the fight.
